We felt privileged to be part of the ten witnesses to celebrate this charming couple’s midweek marriage! This was our first time shooting a Wednesday wedding- and it was nothing short of quaint and sentimental.
Matt and Leslie are from Virginia but have been living in the Bay Area the past couple of years. They had just family at their wedding- keeping it cozy. They will be having a reception back in Virginia in September. We are so excited for them to play their jjfilms wedding video on a large screen at the reception with 200 guests!
We are currently editing together that video, but in the meantime we have a little teaser trailer you can watch to see their euphoric day! Go check out our instagram to watch it: @jjfilms.co
There were so many delicate details woven in this special day. It seemed everything had a sentimental story behind it. Leslie’s creative mother sewed her wedding dress out of the prettiest wood grain fabric. Leslie’s broach belonged to her grandmother, and she had it latched on to her bouquet. We just loved all the history threaded into this day.
They rented the coolest vintage car that matched their teal retro wedding. (insert heart eye emoji here). We had Matt get ready in the front of the house and Leslie in the back of the house to ensure they wouldn’t see each other before the ceremony. So at the moment when Leslie walked down the aisle, it was ethereal! Matt melted seeing his beautiful bride.
One of the things we love about our job of wedding videography is how creative we get to be! It serves as an outlet of our artistic expression. Joel and I are both very handy and we love to dabble in all sorts of art forms. We had a simple homemade wedding. And the months leading up to it, were so so fun. Filled with D.I.Y. days and crafternoons. I am a huge free people/anthropologie fan, but my wallet… is not. So while we are normally on here blogging about our wedding videography- today we are here to share some highlights from OUR epic wedding day and share some hacks to have that boho free people wedding you’ve dreamed of, without going into debt!
Enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
Most times people get so stressed wedding planning that they don’t even enjoy it. They just want the wedding day to come and are overwhelmed with the process to get there. Brides. just take a deep breath and enjoy the journey! Learn about your lover and grow closer through the hardships and stresses of your engagement! Trust me, when you have a crafternoon with your loved one and you can learn to laugh- it makes you have a sense of fulfillment on your wedding day to know that you worked as a team to bring all the tiny details together! Have a wedding day that screams your names because you made it by hand!
We found old doors at a yard sale - which I was able to use for our seating charts and welcome signs. Foraged wood from Los Osos - which my husband was able to use to build our podium, bench, and altar. A dear friend of ours, Vanessa, was able to gather greenery and pampas from the side of the road + succulents growing in the backyard. I cut up brown paper bags and stamped them for our faux gold cutlery. What a special day we will always cherrish!
My amazing mother-in-law handmade all of this Rugelach! She is amazing! Then another dear friend, Susan, helped prepare my dream wedding cake!! The figs came from her backyard and she wrapped them in foil while hanging on the tree to keep them fresh and survive through the cold front and storm that came through days before our wedding day! She stacked different flavors of cakes because seriously, who can decide on ONE flavor of cake?!?!
Here is a little clip from OUR wedding day. We are usually hiding behind the other side of the camera, but on 1-19-19 we got to be that head in the clouds, twitterpated couple that had all the attention! and IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!! So all you love birds out there- we know firsthand about those butterflies you feel in your stomach and that feeling when your heart could burst out of your chest because it is SO FULL OF LOVE!!! A huge thank you to our amazing friends Jareth + Aeriel for capturing this with their Super 8! We absolutely love the nostalgic vintage vibe of Super 8 film. Watching the raw film footage makes us feel like we are in some sort of utopia! Aaaaaand that is because we basically are!! Because that is what being in love does to you! Together on our wedding day we felt like real life was better than a dream. Better than the dreamiest dream you’ve ever dreamt! And so to watch a video from that day and to feel those same butterflies in our stomachs leaves us speechless! Super 8 Film captures the magic that was thrown all around us like pixie dust and lets us replay those emotions again and again. Just ethereal.
This sweet Texas couple came out to San Luis Obispo for a dreamy destination wedding.
We love getting to know couples from other states!! Makes us feel so connected to our world. No matter where we grow up, where our path takes us, everyone loves. And we love that! As different as we all are, we feel this same emotion. As differently as we feel this emotion, we still feel the same sensations from it. Joely + I are privileged to capture so many personal love stories! Each story warm and blissful, each story unique.
So let’s get back to this charming southern couple! Jenna + Danny. We could tell you what we know about their love, but their personal expressions are more powerful than anything we could say! “I promise to try my best every day to put a smile on your face… I will push myself beyond limits to make sure your days are filled with joy and more importantly thoughts of animals.” We love personalized vows.
We are so happy this couple chose to get married at Higuera Ranch, San Luis Obispo. Higuera Ranch is a beautiful, rustic venue. On the property sits an old barn with a lot of character. The landscape is filled with the mountains of the breathtaking Central Coast, California. (We are so blessed to live here!!!) Capturing charming love stories in the one of the most charming settings. We love that this couple came to us here in SLO. If you’re getting married, consider checking out SLO. Or if you’re living in your own little bit of charm, contact us about US coming to YOU!
We have to close this blog with our favorite words from Jenna + Danny’s vows. It’s a vow we just adored. “We will adventure together. Explore together. Laugh together. Cry together. Own a dog farm together. But most of all, we will love together.” -Danny.
We loved creating this Hawaii wedding video for our friends Cheryl + Ken.
First off, we love the big island and everything it entails. What an incredible destination to celebrate love and commitment. The energy of the island is surreal and the land tells its own beautiful love story. Home of the world’s most active volcano, the Big Island feels metaphoric of sparks flying and the intensity of heated passion + love. Kilauea Volcano is awe inspiring and breathtaking // it causes us to pause and reflect on power + captivation.
So here we are in one of the most magnificent places in the world, right. We’re like, “ok this can’t get any more dramatically stunning”…And then we have Cheryl + Ken- this insanely gorgeous couple with an intense love for eachother as strong as a volcano. There is no force strong enough to stop their love. What a privilege to capture their strong love + vibrant energy.
The beautiful thing about love is that it has various facets and moods. Sometimes it is blazing hot with passion, while other times that same emotion is calm and surreal. It has the ability to be peaceful and quiet- gentle like a freshwater pond. To witness the various shades and levels of love is just incredible!! We got to take this couple underwater in a freshwater pond. They were so playful and easy going. (We love how comfortable our brides and grooms feel around us- that they can fully express their love without holding back.) It is in these moments that we capture love in it’s truest form.
These pictures were shot by the amazing Caleb and Cece of Zephyr + Tide. It is always fun collaborating with this mega creative couple.
