One of the things we love about our job of wedding videography is how creative we get to be! It serves as an outlet of our artistic expression. Joel and I are both very handy and we love to dabble in all sorts of art forms. We had a simple homemade wedding. And the months leading up to it, were so so fun. Filled with D.I.Y. days and crafternoons. I am a huge free people/anthropologie fan, but my wallet… is not. So while we are normally on here blogging about our wedding videography- today we are here to share some highlights from OUR epic wedding day and share some hacks to have that boho free people wedding you’ve dreamed of, without going into debt!
Enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
Most times people get so stressed wedding planning that they don’t even enjoy it. They just want the wedding day to come and are overwhelmed with the process to get there. Brides. just take a deep breath and enjoy the journey! Learn about your lover and grow closer through the hardships and stresses of your engagement! Trust me, when you have a crafternoon with your loved one and you can learn to laugh- it makes you have a sense of fulfillment on your wedding day to know that you worked as a team to bring all the tiny details together! Have a wedding day that screams your names because you made it by hand!
We found old doors at a yard sale - which I was able to use for our seating charts and welcome signs. Foraged wood from Los Osos - which my husband was able to use to build our podium, bench, and altar. A dear friend of ours, Vanessa, was able to gather greenery and pampas from the side of the road + succulents growing in the backyard. I cut up brown paper bags and stamped them for our faux gold cutlery. What a special day we will always cherrish!
My amazing mother-in-law handmade all of this Rugelach! She is amazing! Then another dear friend, Susan, helped prepare my dream wedding cake!! The figs came from her backyard and she wrapped them in foil while hanging on the tree to keep them fresh and survive through the cold front and storm that came through days before our wedding day! She stacked different flavors of cakes because seriously, who can decide on ONE flavor of cake?!?!
